Redefined Curly Hair Education is a curly hair education program aimed to break down stereotypes and push the boundaries surrounding curls to help you master your curly hair artistry. We are working to redefine our understanding and perception of curls to empower our guests to reclaim and rewrite their curly hair narrative.
Our mission is also to help stylists extend their knowledge of curly hair and grow in their confidence as curly hairstylists. We are doing so by making the information and skills needed to offer a higher standard of curly hair services more accessible to all. Bounce into Basics
Level 1 Curly Hair Styling and Sculpting
Bounce into Basics is a foundational curly hair class appropriate for stylists of any level wanting to dive into the world of curly hair. We are dedicated to creating a new standard for curly hair salon experiences and invite any and all who are also ready to rewrite the narrative for all curly hair guests. We will be breaking down the intricacies of curly hair specialty across a hands-on three day course to cover the basics of curly hair consultation, styling, cutting, and business. If you are ready to feel more confident in your handling of curls and expand your curly hair service menu, then this class is for you!

How to Navigate a curly consultation

Gaining our clients’ trust starts at the beginning of our service, in the consultation. Learn how to empathetically and confidently navigate through a curly consultation. We will demonstrate the fine dance of consultation as well as coach you through the consultation process with your own live models.
Assessing curly hair essential elements

Curly hair comes in all different shapes, sizes and essential elements. Learn how to tactilely distinguish your clients texture, surface texture, porosity, curl diameter and density. Once you learn how to assess your clients curls we can more confidently approach cutting and styling.
The importance of hydration for curly hair

Hydration is the universal attribute that all curls, waves, and coils need. In this class you will learn what hydration is and how we can help our guests to achieve it. Learn how to feel for buildup on the hair while we also discuss important and controversial topics like the use of oils for hydration, the effects of buildup on curls, as well as debunk and clarify any other curly hair questions you may have.
Detoxing, cleansing and conditioning curls

Less is more when it comes to healthy curly hair. After touching on how to gently and effectively detox your guests’ curls to prime them for the rest of their service, learn the power of a simple cleansing and conditioning routine that will not only give you results but will be easy for your curly hair guests to replicate at home. We will push your creativity as we experiment with different product combinations on our live models. Prepare to learn all the basics of curly hair cutting. Feel comfortable with the body positioning and the importance of dry curly haircutting as you learn to sculpt curl by curl. We will be demonstrating as well as supporting you while you practice all the cutting techniques on both mannequins and live models. This will be hands-on learning at its finest.
How to form a plan of approach

A plan of approach is simply putting the pieces of the puzzle together. How do we put the essential elements of our clients hair together with their desired goals and our professional knowledge of curly hair behavior into a plan that is approachable and not overwhelming for us and our guests? Learning this balance will give you the ability to remain organized to confidently tackle any curly haircut.
How to create different shapes in curly hair

Once you learn the techniques of curly haircutting we will begin exploring the various shapes possible in curly hair, and trust us there are a lot. Leave here knowing not only how but when to use each of the new skills you have developed to customize your curly cuts to each of your unique guests.
Intuitive and creative haircutting

Curly hair is 3 dimensional and requires us to move our bodies and our clients bodies in order to fully visualize the shape we are creating in their curls. We will teach you how to balance between focusing on the details and taking a step back to best see the full context of your shape. Learn how to intuitively navigate through as you sculpt the haircut of your clients’ dreams.

The structure of a curly hair service can be very different from the flow you may be used to. By being transparent about our own service timing, pricing, and business model, we will be sharing with you how to successfully offer these services while being both profitable and thorough with each and every curly guest you encounter

“When I joined the Curlture team, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a team-based salon environment. I was pleasantly surprised to be welcomed into the space and met immediately with mutual respect and kindness as I learned the flow of the salon. I had never been part of a work environment where everyone was able to communicate and be seen as equals regardless of how long they had been part of the team.
I got to work each day along side passionate stylists who took my education just as seriously as I did by taking every possible opportunity to teach me whether it be with their clients or during model nights. I stepped into this program with only the curly hair knowledge I had from my own experience with my hair, but with education at the salon’s forefront I was able to complete my apprenticeship and confidently step into being a stylist.
When I became a stylist, I was able to explore and expand on my cutting techniques and begin forming relationships with my clients as I got to show them their curls sometimes for the first time, which is what really lit my fire and became my inspiration.
I don’t think I would have grown in my career as quickly or as confidently if I was doing it all on my own. Being part of a team based salon allowed me to not worry about the business side of things and just focus on finding what I felt most fulfilled doing.
I truly love what I do and everyday I get to continue to meet new teammates with the same kindness and excitement to see them learn and grow as I was met with. I look forward to continuing to grow my passion for teaching and making curly hair education more accessible to all people and I look forward to doing that all with my team.

The salon for curly hair — located in Santa Rosa, Calif.
At Curlture Salon we are known for being an education focused salon for both our team members as well as our guests. We feel the best way to learn is to do. Our favorite form of education is hands on with our curl lessons being interactive and customized to our guests. It is our mission for all of our guests to leave with a better understanding of their hair and a routine that they can follow to replicate their in-salon results at home.
Our education for our stylists also mirrors this hands-on interactive approach in what we call our hair Apprenticeship Program.
